Top Women's Leaders Added to Growing Women's Wrestling Movement in NC

The NCUSA Women's Task Force is pleased to announce the addition of three new members. They join an already outstanding group working to advance the cause of women's wrestling in North Carolina. Newly announced members of the task force are:

Haley Augello -Haley Augello was a 2016 Olympian competing for TeamUSA at 48kg. . She also won two college national championships for King University and now trains at the TarHeel RTC in Chapel Hill.

Becka Leathers- Becka Leathers was a 2017 World Bronze medalist at 55kg.  She was also a multi-time National Champion throughout her career. She also now trains at the TarHeel RTC with Coach Coleman Scott.

John Williams- Head Coach of Apple Valley Middle School in Hendersonville and founder of the all-girls Relentless Wrestling Club.  John has also served as an assistant coach at North Henderson High School.

NCUSA's Board of Directors created the Women's Task Force to help promote and expand the growing women's wrestling movement in North Carolina. Many states across the country have been adding Women's events and championships, and the strong numbers in North Carolina reflect the trend of massive growth nationwide.

The task force is headed by Havlock HS head coach Chase Holleman. Coach Holleman is a strong supporter of women's wrestling, and currently serves as a member of the NCWCA Board of Directors as well as the newly named Women's Director for NCUSA.

NC State's Melissa Simmons will also serve on the task force, along with Cheryl Baynard, director of the Sgt. S. Matthew Baynard Foundation. Melissa has recently served as the Women's DIrector for NCUSA, as well as National Teams Coach. Cheryl was also a Team Leader for NCUSA in Fargo this summer, and is active in promoting women's wrestling in WNC. Other members will include:

Dhanuijini Amantha- Asst. Coach West Forsyth, Former US World Team Member

Tripp Rogers- Head Coach, Hough HS

Kenny Watkins- Head Coach, Cleveland HS

Mandy Hermel- Wrestling parent

The goal of this task force is to develop wrestling opportunities for women' in North Carolina, coordinate a strategy for the sport at the high school level, and continue to grow the  numbers of women wrestlers in North Carolina.
