NCWCA Announces New Event for 2019

The North Carolina Wrestling Coaches Association is proud to announce the creation of an All-Star team. The team will compete at the end of February versus South Carolina, at North Myrtle Beach High School.

The North Carolina team will be lead by three returning dual meet championship head coaches, and one runner up. Anthony Dunbar (4A Cary), Jamie Belk (3A Piedmont), Butch Ross (2A West Lincoln, and Tom Odom (1A Runner-up Robbinville) have been selected to coach the first North Carolina team.

The roster will be comprised of 14 high school seniors, that will come from a pool of nominees. The NCWCA Board of Directors will meet and select the 14 wrestlers to represent North Carolina.

“We are so pleased to be able to work with the South Carolina Wrestling Coaches Association to create this event,” state NCWCA President Billy Baker. “I can’t tell you how awesome it is for the state of North Carolina, to have three of the biggest wrestling entities partnering together on the venture. Ed [Duncan] of NCUSAW and Rex [Wells] of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame NC Chapter have been tremendous supporters of this. The only way for our sport to grow is for us to work together, and this is a great first step,” added Baker.

“To have the NCWCA come on board and join us is a huge step for wrestling in the Carolinas,” state South Carolina Wrestling Coaches Association President Robbie Bell. “Our event has been around for over 25 years, and to have NC come on board is so exciting. We are looking forward to an annual event,” added Bell.
