TeamNC Loses Young Official/Coach

David Pelsang Jr. was wrestler, coach, and official

David Duryea Pelsang Jr., 31, of Jacksonville died June 4, 2018, at his home.

Dave "The Puppy" Jr. had an outstanding high school wrestling career at White Oak HS, where he was a four-time state qualifier ,  two-time regional champion, four-time conference champion reaching the state finals once. He was also a 4x NCUSA Greco-Roman State Champions, and 2x Freestyle State Champion.  He finished 2nd in the NE Regional (last chance qualifier), missing the Olympic trials by one point.

He then went on to wrestle at Gardner-Webb University where he was well liked and respected by teammates. He placed true second at Regionals his junior and senior seasons as a Bulldog.  A highlight of his Bulldog career was  a 3rd place finish in the NCAA Regionals during his Junior season.

After graduation, Dave involved himself in coaching and officiating, serving as head and assistant coach in the Onslow Co. Wrestling Club and Northside Jacksonville HS, as well as officiating at many regional and national USA Wrestling events.

David was also a trauma nurse for over eight years, and was a beloved uncle, brother and son. In addition to his family, David leaves behind the love his life, Theresa Alkire.

Obituary Information
Memorial will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Blue Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include parents, David and Carol Pelsang; and sister, Bethany Lynn Pelsang, all of Jacksonville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.Friday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
