NCUSA Hosts 1st Ever Women's State Championships

The first NC Women's State Championships was held Feb. 25th at Mitchell High School in Ledger, NC. Twenty six female wrestlers from representing four states attended this inaugural event for female wrestlers of all ages.

NC Native and recently crowned WCWA National Champion Breonnah Neal also attended Saturday's event, as well NCUSA Women's Director Melissa Simmons and representatives from the Wrestle Like a Girl Foundation.

North Carolina had 179 women participating in high school wrestling during the 2016-17 season. This is up from 149 just two years ago. There has also been significant growth in women's youth wrestling as more and more girls discover the benefits and enjoyment of wrestling.
