Complete results from Cadet Duals

Team North Carolina competed in York, Pennsylvania at USA Wrestling’s Cadet National Dual Team Championships June 15-18, 2016. Before leaving for Pennsylvania, Team North Carolina’s 15 athletes trained together at NCUSAW National Team Camp hosted by UNC-Chapel Hill.


Greco Roman action began Wednesday with Team NC falling to Oklahoma and Team Ohio Red, sending them to the 5th place dual against Team Michigan Blue. Team NC got off to a strong start in their 5th place dual with 5 consecutive match victories which proved too much for Michigan to recover from. Team NC won the dual with a score of 44-25, taking 5th place and moving into the Red and Blue Pool for Thursday competition. Thursday proved to be a difficult day for Team NC, who went 1-3 in the Red and Blue Pool, with close losses to Team Kansas Red and Tennessee, and another loss to Utah. Team NC recovered and finished the day with a solid victory over Team Michigan Blue, with wins by Decatur, McGee, Ozimek, Baker, McClellan, Capul, Ferris and Finley Allen, Dugan and Pangallo to secure 7th place in the Red and Blue Pool.

Freestyle competition began Friday morning with Team NC falling to Team Pennsylvania Blue, who started out as the number two seed and went on to finish 2nd in the tournament. Team NC then lost to Maryland with a score of 48-22. Team NC finished the bracket with a strong win over Team Missouri Blue, placing 7th in the B pool and moving them to the Green and Yellow Pool for the remainder of the competition. Friday afternoon closed with a Round 1 victory for Team NC over Team Kansas Red with wins from McClellan, Baker, Capul, Allen, Duggan, Pangallo, Swangim, Suncan, Pappaconstantinou, Decatur, McGee, and Ozimek.  Saturday morning, Freestyle competition resumed Team NC falling to New York in a close 35-31 dual. NC was a strong competitor, but New York came back and took the final two matches and gaining a 4 point lead in the team score to seal their fate. Team NC then took on Team Missouri Blue for 3rd place in the Green and Yellow Pool. Ferris Allen and Nathan Duggan began the dual with a strong start, both athletes finished Freestyle competition with near perfect records, but the team again fell short with a final dual score of 34-33, leaving Team NC in 4th place in the pool.
Team North Carolina will be back in action next week in Tulsa, Oklahoma at USA Wrestling’s Junior National Dual Team Championships.
