App State Staff Runs First Skills Academy, with Tournament in Mooresville

NCUSA kicked off the Fall Folkstyle Season with our first Skills Academy and Tournament in Mooresville, NC on Saturday

Talbert Recreation Center was the site for this exciting pre-season event.

Here's what took place:

8:00-8:45 am Wrestlers arrived and weigh-in as always. We used Madison weights, grouping wrestlers in round-robin groupings (we made every effort to get all wrestlers at least 3-4 matches)

9:00-10:30am Wrestlers participated in a Skills Academy led by top high school and collegiate coaches/wrestlers.This weekend's Academy was led by Coaches from Appalachian State!  The Academy will focus on basic skill development and drilling, and will also include live situational wrestling.

11:00am-Until Wrestlers participated in a round robin folkstyle tournament. Some wrestlers also wrestled a few Freestyle matches if they chose.

The skills academy concept has been used very successfully in Georgia, and we look forward to bringing this exciting concept to North Carolina!

Entry for these events will be $15 per wrestler. Registration will be handled on-site. For more information contact us HERE.
