Faith Bane and Savada Kitchen became North Carolina's newest Fargo All-Americans in today's final day of women's freestyle competition, marking the first time ever North Carolina has had two girls reach the podium in the same year. Their performances capped a strong showing by the Team NC women at this year's championships.
Kitchen went 2-3 overall, with back-to-back pins over Caydan Halls of South Dakota and Jessica Hite, also of South Dakota, to reach the 7th-8th place match. Charley Timms of Nevada bested Kitchen in the placement match, leaving her to finish in 8th place. This was Kitchen's first time in Fargo, and the rising sophomore became the first ever female All-American from far Western North Carolina.
Faith Bane capped a remarkable spring campaign with her 5th place performance. Bane advance all the way to the semi-finals before dropping a tough 2-1 match to Olivia Davis of California. She then bounced back with a 7-2 win over Sylar Slade of Iowa to claim the 5th place spot. Bane had previously placed 3rd at this year's US Open and also claimed a state freestyle championship.
Other wrestlers winning two or more matches for the Team NC ladies included Mia Pardo, Iyanna Crawford, and Sara Warren. Overall the women notched 23 wins against 23 losses.
