Team NC is making several changes ahead of their upcoming 2025 summer wrestling activities.
First, Team NC has announced the decision to allow athletes to opt for "self travel" to and from Fargo. Team NC will still offer travel as part of their comprehensive trip package, which will include a direct flight from North Carolina to Fargo. The cost of the Fargo trip including travel with Team NC will be $1900. The cost of the trip for athletes opting for self travel will be $995. All athletes will still be housed together as a team in Fargo, but this change will allow some flexibility for athletes and parents who may wish to make other travel arrangements for the trip.
In the past several years, Team NC has held a four day training camp in July, immediately preceding the trip to Fargo. This has been adjusted for 2025. There will still be a 2 day pre-trip camp in July (still required for all athletes) immediately before departure. However, there will also be a series of four "day" camps held at locations around Asheville (Western NC) , Charlotte (Mid-West NC) , Raleigh (Mid-East NC), and Jacksonville (Eastern NC) beginning in May. In addition to the day camps, Fargo athletes will be offered the opportunity to attend their age group dual team camps in June. Athletes must attend A) Dual team camp + 1 day camp session or B) 2 of the 4 day camp sessions. They may attend additional day camp sessions for no additional cost if they wish.
In addition to the core staff of coaches selected for Team NC, clubs who have four or more athletes on the 16U/Jr. National Team will be able to have credentialed coaches on the floor in Fargo as part of the Team NC Staff. These additional coaches would be responsible for their own travel to and from Fargo, but would have the option to house with Team NC or make their own lodging arrangements. Clubs with 4-9 athletes on the team would qualify for one coaching credential, while clubs with 10 or more athletes would qualify for two coaching credentials as part of the Team NC staff.
In addition to the requirements of Bronze Certification and active membership with completed background checks and safesport training, Team NC has added the following qualification matrix for consideration in coaching selection:
Coach at a NC USA local tournament -1 point/max 6 points
Coach at USA Southeast Regional’s tournament -3 points
Coach at an additional USA Wrestling regional tournament outside the SER- 2 points/max 6 points
Coach at a USA Wrestling national tournament- 3 points/max 6 points
Referee at a NC USA wrestling event- 2 points/max 6 points
Attend a coach’s clinic when hosted by NC USA- 3 points/max 3 points
Attend a NC USA Olympic Style Initiative practice- 1 point/max 3 points
These additional criteria will allow coaches to know that their participation in USA wrestling activities throughout the year is valued and taken into consideration in the coaching selection process.
Team NC is pleased to announce that due to the success of our first Fargo fundraiser, spearheaded by our partners at Carolina Takedown Talk, we will be offering an immediate $100 OFF the cost of the trip for the first 50 athletes who qualify, sign up, and pay deposits this year. In addition to this, there will be several new merit based national team scholarships provided by proceeds from the Warriors to the Rescue tournament held earlier this spring. Details on these are being finalized and will be announced soon.
Team NC will also launch a second round of fundraising at the Tar Heel State Classic aimed at reducing the cost of dual team competitions for athletes participating on those trips.
Team NC is committed to providing our athletes at every level the best training and competition opportunities available, at affordable costs. We appreciate the volunteers and donors across North Carolina who give so much time and energy to making these opportunities a reality.
