Machavelo Sealey and Forrest Earn World Team Berths!

Mike Macchiavello got the party started Saturday night, and Joe Sealy and Jax Forrest kept it going through Sunday as all three earned World Team Slots and will represent Team USA this summer at the World Championships.

Macchiavello of the Wolfpack WC/TMWC, a past NCAA champion for NC State, broke a 1-1 tie with a clutch takedown and added a late counter takedown to score a 6-1 win over two-time Greco-Roman World Team member Joe Rau of the Wildcat WC/TMWC at 97 kg.

Joe Sealey, mowed his way through the field to reach the finals at 70kg freestyle, and then knocked off KJ Evans of Oklahoma in two straight bouts  (9-2 and 15-7) to earn his first World Team Slot.

Former Team NC member Jax Forrest needed all three rounds and a last second review in match 3 to pull off an incredible win over Nate Jesuroga of Sebolt Wrestling Academy.

Several other North Carolina based wrestlers placed and had great performances  at this years US Open, including former Pemroke star Rashaad Saunders, a host of NC State  wrestlers including Isaac Trumble , Jacob Camacho, Nick Reena, and Tommy Gantt, App State standout Caleb Smith, UNC stars Max Shaw and Noah Pettigrew, and a trio of Campbell standouts in Anthony Molton and Caleb and Levi Hopkins.
