North Carolina Father/Son Are Part of Fargo History

A North Carolina father/son duo share a special and unique bond in the sport of wrestling. Andy and Auggie Gunning are among a fraternity of father/son wrestlers who have both competed in the 50 year history of the Junior National Freestyle championships, simply known today as "Fargo".

USA wrestling hosted winners of the original 1971 event and recognized volunteers and coaches who have attended the event at least 25 times. A parade of states was also part of the celebration, with the Gunning's serving as North Carolina's flag bearers for the celebration.

In addition to serving as a competitor, Andy Gunning has also participated in the event as a North Carolina team leader and coach. He currently serves as the club coach for the Tar Heel Kids Club in Chapel Hill.
