Championships Coming To Charlotte!

NC/SC Join Forces for Championship Events!

Wrestling is BACK in North Carolina, and Team NC is excited to be partnering with SCUSA to bring your a fantastic weekend of wrestling in Charlotte. Whether you're looking for mat time, medals, national team qualification, or a chance at at Triple Crown Award, May 1-2 has you covered! EVENTS

Saturday, May 1st will feature men's and women's freestyle and greco-roman competition. North and South Carolina wrestlers will compete separately for their state championships in these Olympic styles.  Also on Saturday there will be an "OPEN" tournament for U23/Masters men as well as girls from across the SE. Sunday May 2nd will be men's and women's folkstyle competition for wrestlers of all ages. North and South Carolina wrestlers will combine along with wrestlers from other states for the Carolinas Open Folkstyle Championships. The highest finishing North Carolina wrestler in each age/weight division will be declared the NC State Folkstyle Champion. Wrestlers who win both Freestyle & Greco on Saturday as well as the Folkstyle event on Sunday will be declared TRIPLE CROWN Winners and will earn a special Triple Crown award. Please note there is one registration for Freestyle/Greco and a separate registration for the Folkstyle Open.

AWARDS

Medals will be awarded to the top 3 wrestlers in each age/weight division for each style of wrestling. In addition, wrestlers who enter and win ALL THREE events will be awarded a special TRIPLE CROWN Award!  This is also the first NC Top 50 event, so wrestlers will be on their way to earning their place in the NC Top 50 for the 2021 season.

HOTELS

We have some outstanding hotel rates being offered through FRIDAY, APRIL 23 with our host hotels in downtown Charlotte. WEIGH INS

Friday's weigh-ins will take place from 6pm-9pm at the Westin Hotel in downtown Charlotte. Also, for any high school or middle school wrestlers wishing to compete in Saturday's event but cannot make these weigh-ins due to a match on Friday, we will gladly accept your certified weigh-in from your high school or middle school team's Friday match.

Saturday's weigh-ins will take place IN the Charlotte Convention Center. 7:30-8:00am- Day-of Weigh-ins for FS/GR Tournament. You MUST be participating in the FS/GR Tournament to attend this weigh-in. Folkstyle Only wrestlers must weigh-in at 4pm on Saturday. Also, any middle or high school wrestlers who have matches on Saturday can use their certified weigh-in from those matches for Sunday's folkstyle event.

COVID SCREENINGS AND PROTOCOLS

Our wrestling event is one of the first events back at the Charlotte Convention Center, and we will be taking the usual COVID-19 precautions including pre-screening and temperature checks at the door, mask wearing at all times except for competitors when on the mat, social distancing, limited crowd size, and extra personal and mat sanitation. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we work to adhere to the guidelines we are required to follow in order to have an event. Please wear your face coverings at all times, and be respectful of our need to adhere to limited capacity requirements. We kindly ask no more than 2 spectators per wrestler (coaches do NOT count toward or spectator limits) and that you clear the wrestling area once your athlete has completed their competition session.

National Team Qualification

These events are the first of two qualifying events for our Team NC Dual Teams an Fargo (Cadet/Junior/Women's Nationals). The other qualifying event is the Frank E. Rader Southeast Regionals coming up May 21-22 in Jacksonville, FL. Wrestlers who qualify for slots on these teams will be notified and have a chance to claim their spots before petition slots are awarded. Any wrestler who participates in the event but does not qualify based on placement may petition for a slot with no additional petition fee. Wrestlers who are unable to attend one of the two qualifying events will be asked to pay a $50 petition fee to be considered for a slot on the team of their choosing.
