Growth Leads Youth Tournament To Become Stand Alone Event

Growth and expansion are the theme for the 3rd Annual Great Smoky Mountain Grapple , set for the upcoming weekend in Asheville, NC.

In the first two years of the event the NCHSAA High School and JV tournament AND the Youth grapple were held on one day. The tournament grew quickly in year two, and this year the varsity field has expanded to 32 teams! In addition to the varsity tournament, there is the JV division and also a NEW women's division. These will be competing on Friday and Saturday December 20-21.

This growth prompted the need to move the USA Youth portion of the event to its own day. So for the first time this year the YOUTH portion of the Grapple will take place on Sunday, Dec. 22nd.

Previously the youth event was only a K-6 event. This year has been expanded to include all USA age groups 6U-Junior, which will allow for participation from middle school and high school aged wrestlers.

Wrestlers from several states including Iowa and South Carolina are already confirmed as the Grapple aims to become one of the premier holiday youth events in the Southeast.
