Fitch contines to set the pace for women's wrestling in NC

Heaven Fitch earned All-American status in both  cadet and junior divisions at the USMC National Wrestling Championships to lead Team North Carolina. Five women, including Fitch, Nikcoly Dos Santos, Sophia Forquer, Jade Hutto, and Brooke Hermel went a combined 17-11 over the week.

Fitch was leading defending national champ Sterling Dias 6-4 in the cadet quarterfinals when time expired, but a last ditch challenge netted Dias an additional two points and the win to send Fitch into the consolation rounds. From there she was perfect, reeling off four straight victories to finish in 3rd place.

Sophia Forquer made her Fargo debut as a cadet as well, going 1-2 overall.

In the junior division four women competed, including North Carolina's Trisha Saunders Award winner Nikoly Dos Santos. Dos Santos reeled off three quick wins to reach the quarterfinals, where she met national champ Emily Shilson of Minnesota. Shilson defeated Dos Santos 10-0 dropping her to the consolation rounds, where she dropped a tough 4-0 bout to Julianne Moccia of Maryland to finish 3-2 for the tournament.

Fitch moved up from 94lbs in cadet competition to 100lbs in the junior competition, and proceeded to finish 5th, earning her 2nd stop sign of the week.

Brooke Hermel went 2-2 and Jade Hutto was 1-2 to add to North Carolina's success.

Fitch became the first ever women's double Fargo All-American in North Carolina history, and is now a 3x AA award winner.
