NC College teams hit the mats for the first time this weekend, with some strong results.
The NC State Wolfpack led the way at the NWCA All-Star Classic with three winners, including North Carolina's own Micheal Macchiavello.
Several NC teams competed in the Hokie Open at Virginia Tech. A.C. Headlee and Troy Heilmann were individual winners to lead the North Carolina wrestling team at the 2017 Hokie Open. For Duke, Jacob Kasper repeated as champions Duke won 3 individual titles.
Appalachian State had a great start to the season with for top-four finishes at the Hokie Open. UNC-Pembroke also opened their 17-18 conference at the Hokie Open with six wrestlers registering wins on the day. Gardner-Webb also competed at the Hokie Open, with Tyler Marinelli leading the way for the Bulldogs.
Chaas Delgado was crowned champion at the Patriot Open Saturday to lead Belmont Abbey.
For Davidson new head coach Andy Lausier saw four of his grapplers make the quarterfinals of the opening tourney.
St. Andrews will kick off their season November 12 at the UNCP Classic
The ECU Club team had a strong showing Saturday in their first outing of the season.
Queens University Royals will kick off their season at the King Open Nov. 11.
