Beach Nationals Continues to Grow and Attract Wrestlers from Across the Country

The 2016 Beach Nationals saw great weather and great competition again this year.  Competitors from fifteen states including Washington, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Florida descended on Carolina Beach Saturday for an outstanding day of competition.

In the 90+ unlimited Senior Men's Division World Bronze Medalist and Pan American Champion Ike Okoli outdueled U.S. Veteran’s Nationals Greco-Roman champion Gabe Beauperthuy in an epic battle of two giants. Then Nicholas Wimmer of Combat WC stunned those in attendance by handing as spent Okoli his first loss on US soil in over four years. Wimmer earned the Superheavyweight Gold with the victory, with Okoli and Beauperthuy also earning medals.

Local favorite Lee Reitzel of Carolina Beach won his 3rd consecutive National Title at 70kg, defeating Nicholas Pipes of Pope / Fort Bragg, as well as earning a gold in the Veterans D/E division.
