NC's Best Make This Years Tar Heel A Memorable One!

The 39th Annual Tar Heel State Classic was just that- A Classic! Over 450 wrestlers from six different states descended on Chapel Hill to do battle for National Team slots, Top 50 standings, and Tar Heel bragging rights.

Greco competition on Friday was was heated and intense. Nearly 200 greco competitors participated, including numerous state champions. In the team race, small club honors were won by the Goon Squad of Shalotte, NC, will Greenville WC close behind. The large club division saw the Backyard Wrestling Club bring home top honors, with Strong and Courageous finishing second. For complete Greco results CLICK HERE.

The Freestyle tournament Saturday saw nearly 300 entries do battle on seven mats. The Small Club division was won by the Port City Pirates, with the Copperheads edging out New River WC for runner up. Strong and Courageous and Backyard Wrestling Club were again on top in the Freestyle as well. For complete Freestyle results CLICK HERE.

The next two weeks will see local events on tap in all corners of North Carolina. Then May 14-15 top wrestlers will gather again in Winston-Salem for the State Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championships.
